Instead of becoming a Gallic alternative to Volvo, it quit the U.S. market in 1991, never to return.<br /> <br /> This Peugeot 205, which I found in Chartres, is a well-kept example of the car that could have saved Peugeot in America if given the chance. This 205 is the Junior model, produced between 1986 and 1993. The Junior offered a choice between 954cc and 1124 inline fours, both gasoline-powered motors.<br /> <br /> <i>The</i> Peugeot 205 to have is the 205 GTI, which gave the original GTI, Volkswagen's performance-oriented Golf, a run for its money in Europe. The 205 GTI would obviously have been the crown jewel in Peugeot's U.S. lineup if only the brand had elected to give us the 205, but those frogs blew it! As for me, the 205 GTI was my white whale while in France, but alas, this Junior was the only 205 I came across.<br /> <br /> This was the last picture I took before leaving Chartres before my next stop in the Loire Valley.</p>
