<p>A Class 50 to Llandudno ! i will have some of that especially as it was top n tailed with a Class 40.<br />
So with a day off and fine weather forecast i thought i would do a 600 mile round trip to bag a few shots of Fearless and Andania in and around the semaphores at Llandudno plus this shot taken as the train passes the outskirts of Deganwy with Conwy Castle in the distance. Epic...<br />
40013 leads the train and 50050 with the 1Z26 1600 Llandudno to Kirkcaldy.</p>

Conwy Suspension Bridge<br />
<br />
The Conwy Suspension Bridge is a Grade I-listed structure and is one of the first road suspension bridges in the world. Located in the medieval town of Conwy in Conwy county borough, North Wales, it is now only passable on foot. <br />
<br />
Built by Thomas Telford, the 99.5-metre-long (326 ft) suspension bridge spans the River Conwy next to Conwy Castle, a World Heritage Site. The bridge was built in 1822–1826 at a cost of £51,000 (equivalent to £5,700,000 in 2024) and replaced the ferry at the same point. It is in the same style as one of Telford's other bridges, the Menai Suspension Bridge crossing the Menai Strait. The original wooden deck was replaced by an iron roadway in the late nineteenth century and it was strengthened by adding wire cables above the original iron chains in 1903. The following year a six-foot-wide (1.8 m) walkway was added for pedestrian traffic. The bridge was superseded by a new road bridge built alongside and closed on 13 December 1958 when Henry Brooke, the Minister of Welsh Affairs, performed the opening ceremony of the new bridge. The suspension bridge is now only used as a footbridge and has been owned by the National Trust since 1965.<br />

<p>12/07/2026 - 60028 is seen just before Conwy castle on 6D22 - Chaddesden Sdgs to Penmaenmawr Quarry. After driving down friday night and spending the whole weekend darting around the midlands in some gorgeous weather and then driving up from Mid Hants for this working it was a loverly send off before heading back up home on the sunday.</p>

The nearer towers and chains are parts of Telford's Suspension Bridge of 1822-26, behind which is the western support tower for Stephenson's 1848-49 Tubular Bridge (in engineering terms a box girder bridge).</p>

Conwy suspension bridge<br />
Construction: The Conwy Suspension Bridge was built between 1822 and 1826 and was designed by the renowned engineer Thomas Telford. It was constructed to improve access along the London to Holyhead road, facilitating travel to Dublin by replacing the ferry that previously operated at the same location .<br />

Conwy Castle is a fortification in Conwy, located in North Wales. It was built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1287. Constructed as part of a wider project to create the walled town of Conwy, the combined defences cost around £15,000, a massive sum for the period. Over the next few centuries, the castle played an important part in several wars. It withstood the siege of Madog ap Llywelyn in the winter of 1294–95, acted as a temporary haven for Richard II in 1399 and was held for several months by forces loyal to Owain Glyndŵr in 1401.<br />
<br />
Architecture<br />
<br />
The castle hugs a rocky coastal ridge of grey sandstone and limestone, and much of the stone from the castle is largely taken from the ridge itself, probably when the site was first cleared. The local stone was not of sufficient quality to be used for carving details such as windows, however, and accordingly sandstone was brought in from the Creuddyn peninsula, Chester and the Wirral. This sandstone was more colourful than the local grey stone, and was probably deliberately chosen for its appearance.<br />
<br />
The main entrance to the castle is through the western barbican, an exterior defence in front of the main gate. When first built, the barbican was reached over a drawbridge and a masonry ramp that came up sharply from the town below; the modern path cuts east along the outside of the walls. The barbican features the earliest surviving stone machicolations in Britain, and the gate would originally have been protected by a portcullis.<br />
