mountain ranges, for example, Devonian, Lewisian or Cambrian periods.<br /> Here, the red soil, derived from Devonian Old Red Sandstone<br /> is evident in Peak Hill Cliff, to the west of Sidmouth.<br /> An idea of scale is aided by the person visible on the beach.<br /> In the distance High Peak Cliff, with Big Picket Rock below it, is clear.<br /> Ladram Bay curves away beyond these landmarks.<br /> With Salcombe Hill to the east and Peak Hill to the west,<br /> views of Sidmouth are plentiful and spectacular,<br /> thus, it is a highly favoured seaside resort.</p> <p><a 1990 to be replaced by a mediocre dingy station hidden away further back. Less enlightened times! The square the station is named after doesn’t even exist anymore. The hotel that was connected to the station still exists, the last reminder of a grand terminus. A British Rail ‘Bradford Exchange’ sign for the station would have been above the entrance here. Exchange was a large terminal building, demolished in 1973 to make way for the new, much smaller, Bradford Interchange Station located nearby. Segundo a tradição alemã, ter um Quebra-Nozes na entrada da casa, no jardim... afasta as energias negativas, maus espíritos. Uma crença que se firmou no século XIX. Ele é símbolo de boa sorte, protetor do lar... Os bonecos Quebra-Nozes surgiram na Alemanha não apenas como protetores de maus espíritos, mas também serviam para quebrar nozes com seus dentes fortes, e posteriormente, tornaram-se enfeites natalinos populares. <br /> <br /> Os tradicionais bonecos de madeira Quebra-Nozes, surgiram no final do século XVII, representando figuras comuns, como padeiros, artesões, mineiros... e eram funcionais! No século XIX, os artesões alemães começaram a criar caricaturas que imitavam autoridades: Soldados, Policiais, Reis... figuras que remetem a força e a coragem, valores associados à proteção, popularizando-se em 1892 após o balé “O Quebra-Nozes” de Tchaikovsky. <br /> <br /> A história “O Quebra-Nozes e o Rei dos Camundongos”, sobre um boneco mágico que ganha vida em uma noite de Natal e que luta contra um exército de ratos, foi escrita pelo escritor alemão E.T.A. Hoffmann (1776-1822) em 1816, e popularizada no formato de balé por Tchaikovsky em 1892, tornando-se um clássico natalino sobre coragem, imaginação e a transição da infância para a idade adulta. Os protagonistas: a menina Clara e o boneco Príncipe Quebra-Nozes, em um mundo de fantasia e magia. O balé se passa na casa de Clara numa noite de Natal, tem 2 Atos.
