<p>Another ninth-generation Passat station wagon, this one parked on Museum Island in Munich's Isar River, where I was to take in the exhibits at the German Museum of Masterpieces of Science and Technology. The station wagon is alive and well in Europe, but, naturally Americans can't be bothered with a wagon unless it has a high clearance and plastic cladding.</p>

<p>Earlier I photographed the Isartor gate tower form within Munich's old city. Here it is from the other side, in the more modern section of the city. You can tell it's on the modern side because of all the cars! :-D<br />

Yes, both pictures were taken the same day, and yes, it started raining quite moderately by the time I got to this vantage point. it rained on and off a lot in Europe in July 2025.<br />

The plaza around the Isartor is called - what else? Isartorplatz.</p>

<p>Yes, this elegant, racy car is an Opel Astra, the competitor to the Volkswagen Golf in Europe. This is a more stylish take on Opel's volume model. <br />
<br />
I can't tell what generation this Astra is, though I know it's not of recent vintage, because Opel dropped the Astra coupe a while ago. I <i>can</i> tell that this car has a 1.8-liter inline four.<br />
<br />
The displacement number is on the rear right end of the car.</p>
