Hello - Interview July 25 1998<br />
<br />
with Ronan and Yvonne The two newly married couples arrived by helicopter. As they walked through the groups of family members with enormous smiles on their faces, no one could be in any doubt they were all delighted to be sharing their happiness with their loved ones at last. <br />
RONAN, WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO HOLD YOUR PARTY AT POWERSCOURT? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "We were going to do it at the house in kildare but there were too many people coming so we had to change venues. Fitzers, who organised the whole party for us, suggested Powerscourt and it was perfect. It is such a beautiful place and we had a <br />
fantastic time." <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "The party was exceptional. We are lucky because are family and friends know our pop friends so there is never any risk of there being 50% of the people at one end of the room and the rest at the other." <br />
<br />
WHY DID YOU GET MARRIED IN SECRET? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "We were so in love and it seemed like the next step. We had been planning to get married in the summer but Nevis was incredibily special so we decided to go ahead. We would have loved to have had a family do, but it wasn't possible." <br />
<br />
WHAT DID YOUR FAMILIES SAY WHEN THEY FOUND OUT? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "They were over the moon when we told them. Only those who were close to us knew that we were even seeing each other." <br />
<br />
WHERE DID THE CEREMONY TAKE PLACE? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "We got married on a beautiful beach with a canopy over us and a Caribbean steel band. It was absolutely stunning. It was the middle of the evening and the sun was on the way down. Afterwards we had dinner and partied for a while, and had an early night. We were so tired with the whole excietement of it that we conked out." <br />
<br />
WHAT DID YOU WEAR? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "White linen trousers and a white t-shirt and Ronan wore black trousers and a black short-sleeved shirt. We wore the opposite at the party but not on purpose! I had bought a black Gucci dress and it was the ideal opportunity to wear it, so Ronan wore a white suit. <br />
<br />
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GET MARRIED IN SUCH A HURRY? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "It wasn't a hurry at all. We are madly in love and want to spend the rest of our lives together. We want to be young with our kids and we don't want to wait forever." <br />
<br />
WERE YOU ABLE TO ORGANISE THINGS LIKE YOUR WEDDING RINGS? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "I only wear one ring as I don't wear much jewellery. We had silver bands as engagement rings until we had platinum ones made as wedding rings. Mine has diamonds in it and Ronan's in plain." <br />
<br />
DID YOU MANAGE TO MAKE TIME FOR A HONEYMOON? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "We spent a week in Nevis, then four days in New York and then we came back and spent a few days in the country in Ireland." <br />
<br />
HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN EACH OTHER? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "We met when we were 14 years of age. We never saw each other for years, then we met up again two years ago and became really good friends and hung out for a long time. We got together at the end of the year when we both individually decided it was make or break" <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "He is the only person I have ever loved and he is my best friend in the world. We spend 99% of our time together, which is hard to believe when we are both so busy." <br />
<br />
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO REALISE THAT YOU WERE IN LOVE? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "We never thought we would get together. It sounds strange when I am a model and he is a pop star - people might not believe that. But we just hung around in a big group of friends at home. We have lots of friends with normal jobs and Ronan never acted like a big star. We used to talk on our own and have intense converstaions that were never romantic. We leaned <br />
on one and other as friends until he told me one day that he had to tell me how he really felt about me. I was also begining to realize that I had to come clean, and if it meant losing a friend then I had to walk away. In the end he did tell me and it was the best thing that ever happened. It was a gamble - and it was worth it." <br />
<br />
DID THE FACT THAT YOU KNEW EACH OTHER SO WELL MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO START DATING? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "It wasn't like a normal date. Wee didn't have to ask each other how many brothers and sisters we had because we knew everything about each other." <br />
<br />
RONAN, WHAT IS IT ABOUT YVONNE THAT MADE YOU REALISE SHE IS SPECIAL? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "She is my best friend in the world. She means the world to me and without her I don't know what I would do." <br />
<br />
HOW IMPORTANT WAS IT, THAT AS A SUCCESSFUL MODEL, SHE UNDERSTANDS YOUR LIFESTYLE? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "She knows that I come home to her and she is the most important person in the world to me. We manage to spend a lot of time together. We know we have to give each other time or the marriage won’t survive. If I am on the road she comes with me and if she is working I go with her." <br />
<br />
YOU WERE VERY CLOSE TO YOUR MOTHER. DID SHE KNOW YVONNE? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "She knew her and knew that both of us were in love so I am sure she would have backed us. She would have been in her element at the party. She would have loved it. It was so sad she couldn’t be there." <br />
<br />
YOU ALWAYS SAID YOU WOULD SAVE YOURSELF FOR MARRIAGE. DID YOU? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "Yes, that was the case, but I am a married mann now, and I will say no more!" <br />
<br />
ARE YOU PLANNING TO START A FAMILY SOON? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "We'll take every step as it comes and enjoy it and see what happens." <br />
<br />
YVONNE, WOULD YOU GIVE UP YOUR CAREER TO HAVE A FAMILY? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: " Oh, definitely. We both want a family but we don't know when we get around to it just yet. I've been a model in Dublin for five years but since I got married I haven't been working as much. I used to work four or five days a week and now it is just one." <br />
<br />
RONAN, ARE YOUR FANS DISAPPOINTED YOU HAVE GOT MARRIED? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "They have been so supportive and fantastic. If they see Yvonne in the street they shout congratulations. Our fans are the best in the world. Without them we wouldn't be here today. Thank you very much to all of them." <br />
<br />
YVONNE, WERE YOU WORRIED AT ALL ABOUT THE FANS' REACTION TO YOUR MARRIAGE? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "I was slightly worried at the beginning but his first working day after the wedding was appearing on Top Of The Pops. We got the most amazing reception from the fans and within 60 seconds my fears were gone when they started shouting out : "congratulations." Now when the fans are around they say hello to me and talk to me as if they know me." <br />
<br />
DOES THAT FEEL STRANGE? <br />
<br />
Yvonne: "No, it is better that way." <br />
<br />
RONAN, BOYZONE HAS BEEN MUCH MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN ANY OF YOU ANTICIPATED. HOW ARE YOU COPING WITH ALL THE FAME? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "Very well. Five years down the road we are still going and nobody expected us to do it. I am very happy with what we have done and what we have achieved. We have progressed with our music all the time so the fans haven't got bored with it." <br />
<br />
HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM MISTAKES MADE BY OTHER BANDS? <br />
<br />
Ronan: "No, definitely not. We make mistakes for ourselves! That is why we are here today and that is why we survive." <br />
<br />

WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER MOVING ABROAD TO SOMEWHERE LIKE AMERICA OR MONTE CARLO? <br />
<br />
