River Teme and Ludlow Castle from Dinham Bridge, Shropshire, England." /></a></p> <p>Commentary.<br /> <br /> A tributary of the River Severn, the River Teme flows around a rocky bluff upon which stands the proud and ancient Ludlow Castle, in the green, hilly and rural countryside of Shropshire.<br /> Whitcliffe to the south-west provides a spectacular view of<br /> castle, river and town.<br /> The bridge had a predecessor for centuries but was rebuilt in the early 19th. Century.<br /> The road across it passed through one of several “gates” into the fortified town.<br /> Alas, Dinham Gate was demolished in 1786 and all the others<br /> met the same fate at various times, bar one, Broad Gate, which still stands, a little to the east.<br /> The tree-sheltered and grassy banks of the river now provide a superb environment for river-side-walks, restaurants, Public Houses and picnic sites.<br /> Children toe-dip and skim stones in the shallow pools nearby. <br /> An historic, secluded, beautiful environment on the fringe of, probably, “the loveliest town in England.”</p> <p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/people/pnwrails/">PNW Rails Photography</a> posted a photo:</p> <p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/pnwrails/54628562198/" title="Steel Coils in the Mojave Desert"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54628562198_ab4c4ec2e2_m.jpg" width="240" height="160" alt="Steel Coils in the Mojave Desert" /></a></p> <p>A unit train of steel coils passes the remains of a lava cone on its run west down the Needles Sub.
