Nose to the ground, ears alert and tail wagging, every few metres promises another fascinating discovery.<br /> <br /> His owner may think they’re simply out for a walk, but the dog clearly has a far more ambitious itinerary planned. Those events accelerated the development of the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme, one of the largest flood defence projects undertaken in Scotland. <br /> <br /> Today, new flood walls, embankments and improved riverside landscaping line much of the Teviot, designed to protect almost 1,000 properties while respecting the character of this historic Borders town. Looking across the river, the old stone buildings and church still define Hawick’s skyline, but the modern flood defences now form an important part of the view—and of the town’s future
