<p><u>The Postcard</u><br />
<br />
A postcard bearing no publisher's name that was posted in Penzance using a 2d. stamp on Wednesday the 25th. July 1951. The card was sent to:<br />

Mr. & Mrs. J. Daft,<br />
12, Cornwell Road,<br />
Williamstown,<br />
Penygraig,<br />
S. Wales.<br />
<br />
The message on the divided back of the card was as follows:<br />
<br />
"Dear Mr. & Mrs. Daft,<br />
Just a line. Trust you<br />
are all OK.<br />
We are having lovely<br />
weather and having a<br />
very nice holiday.<br />
Went to Army service<br />
Sunday - the officers<br />
know you.<br />
Love,<br />
B.D."<br />
<br />
<u>Penzance</u><br />
<br />
Penzance is a town and port in the Penwith district of Cornwall, England. It is the westernmost major town in Cornwall, and is about 64 miles (103 km) west-southwest of Plymouth, and 255 miles (410 km) west-southwest of London. <br />
<br />
Situated in the shelter of Mount's Bay, the town faces south-east onto the English Channel. It is bordered to the west by the fishing port of Newlyn. Granted various royal charters from 1512 onwards and incorporated on the 9th. May 1614, Penzance has a population of 21,200 (2011 census).<br />
<br />
Penzance's Chapel Street has a number of interesting features, including the Egyptian House, and The Admiral Benbow public house (home to a real life 19th.-century smuggling gang, and allegedly the inspiration for Treasure Island's "Admiral Benbow Inn").<br />
<br />
Chapel Street also features the Union Hotel (including a Georgian theatre which is no longer in use), and Branwell House, where the mother and aunt of the famous Brontë sisters once lived. <br />
<br />
Regency and Georgian terraces and houses are common in some parts of the town. The nearby sub-tropical Morrab Gardens has a large collection of tender trees and shrubs, many of which cannot be grown outdoors anywhere else in the UK. <br />
<br />
Also of interest is the seafront with its promenade and the open-air seawater Jubilee Pool (one of the oldest surviving Art Deco swimming baths in the country).<br />
<br />
Penzance is the base of the pirates in Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera The Pirates of Penzance. At the time the libretto was written, 1879, Penzance had become popular as a peaceful resort town, so the idea of it being overrun by pirates was amusing to contemporaries.<br />
<br />
<u>Patti D'Arbanville</u><br />
<br />
So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?<br />
<br />
Well, the 25th. July 1951 marked the birth of the American actress Patti D'Arbanville. Patti is known for her appearance in Andy Warhol projects.<br />
<br />
After appearing in Flesh (1968), D'Arbanville performed in Warhol's L'Amour (1973), and as the title character in the David Hamilton film Bilitis (1977).<br />
<br />
D'Arbanville has worked in film and television series in the United States and France, including her role as Lt. Virginia Cooper on the Fox series New York Undercover,<br />
<br />
<u>Patti D'Arbanville's Personal Life</u><br />
<br />
In the late 1960's, when Patti was a model in London, D'Arbanville met and developed a romance with singer and songwriter Cat Stevens. She was the inspiration for his 1970 song "Lady D'Arbanville".<br />
<br />
D'Arbanville left Stevens for periods of time to continue her modeling career in Paris and NYC, and was a part of Warhol's Factory scene. In an interview with Warhol, she said of the song "Lady D'Arbanville":<br />
<br />
"Stevens wrote that song "Lady D'Arbanville" <br />
when I left for New York. I left for a month, it <br />
wasn't the end of the world was it? <br />
But he wrote this whole song about 'Lady <br />
D'Arbanville, why do you sleep so still?' <br />
It's about me dead. So while I was in New <br />
York, for him it was like I was lying in a coffin... <br />
He wrote that because he missed me, <br />
because he was down... It's a sad song."<br />
<br />
D'Arbanville later had a relationship with actor Don Johnson from 1981 to 1985. The couple had a son, Jesse Wayne Johnson (born 7th. December 1982).<br />
<br />
D'Arbanville has been married and divorced three times. She lived in France for 10 years, becoming fluent in French, and was married to French actor Roger Miremont from 1975 to 1980. <br />
<br />
She was married to Steve Curry from 1980 to 1981. She was then married to former NYC firefighter Terry Quinn from 1993 to 2002. They have three children.<br />
