<p>Der Kulturpalast in Warschau ist zweifelsohne ein Gebäude, das polarisiert. Erbaut 1955 im Stil des Sozialistischen Realismus auf Anordnung des sowjetischen Diktators Stalin, ist es mit einer Höhe von 237 m lange das zweithöchste Gebäude Europas gewesen. Es sollte beeindrucken, es sollte einschüchtern, es sollte indoktrinieren. Nicht wenige forderten nach dem Fall des eisernen Vorhangs ab den 90er Jahren den Abriss.<br />
Bereits als Kind in den 70er und 80er Jahren wusste ich von diesem imposanten Gebäude und war von seiner Architektur begeistert. So etwas hatten wir "im Westen" nicht. Entsprechend begeistert war ich, nun das Gebäude erstmals "in echt" sehen zu können. Meine Frau hingegen, im China der 80er Jahre aufgewachsen, empfand beim Anblick eher so etwas wie Langeweile bis leichten Ekel. Da ich das Gebäude aber nun etwas ausgiebiger erkunden und fotografieren wollte, stieg sie spontan ins nächste Taxi und fuhr von dannen. Ja, so ist das mit den kulturellen Wurzeln der Menschen.... 😊<br />

The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw is undoubtedly a polarizing building. Built in 1955 in the Socialist Realist style on the orders of Soviet dictator Stalin, at 237 meters, it was for a long time the second-tallest building in Europe. It was meant to impress, to intimidate, to indoctrinate. After the fall of the Iron Curtain in the 1990s, quite a few people called for its demolition.<br />
Even as a child in the 1970s and 1980s, I knew about this imposing building and was fascinated by its architecture. We didn't have anything like it in the western Europe. I was accordingly thrilled to be able to see the building "in real life" for the first time. My wife, on the other hand, who grew up in China in the 1980s, felt something like boredom or mild disgust at the sight. But since I wanted to explore and photograph the building more thoroughly, she spontaneously hopped into the next taxi and drove away. Yes, that's how it is with people's cultural roots... 😊<br />
