The next thing on our list was to visit a 'ruin bar' and along the street we saw some fabulous artwork! This was close to the bar we were aiming for.

It’s almost impossible to think of Budapest without its ruin bars, but in the long span of the city’s history, the likes of Szimpla and co are just a blip in its historic lifetime. But even in the last 15 years, Budapest’s ruin bars have evolved into an attraction that is perhaps as popular, if not more so, than the likes of Buda Castle and the Hungarian Parliament Building.
In the early 2000s, the inner part of the VII District was made up of crumbling, abandoned buildings. Once the site of the Jewish ghetto, the historic Jewish Quarter became dilapidated in the decades following World War II, after the deportation of 10,000s Jews. In 2002, the guys behind Szimpla opened up the very first venue on Kertész utca – where you’ll find the Szimpla Café today. However, the real kick happened in 2004, when Ábel Zsendovits and his friends decided to gamble on a condemned building complex on Kazinczy street, which marked the start of the legendary ruin bar we all know and love today.
In the early days of the ruin bar, many feared they would get closed down – especially in the VII District, which made for potential prime real estate. However, eventually ruin bars became an iconic part of the cityscape, so much that people would come to Budapest especially to come drink in these crumbling watering holes. More bars popped up, like Instant and Fogas Ház. The ruin bar also took a commercial turn, where rather than opening up a counter-cultural space where the creative underground could come for a drink. (From budapestflow.com)

Two more photos from the Dohány Street Synagogue. I do love a tile, and there were plenty on this building!

The Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest features intricate Moorish Revival design elements, including decorative, multi-colored brick and ceramic tile work on its exterior facade. Completed between 1854 and 1859, the building's facade prominently displays yellow and red brickwork combined with geometric, Islamic-style ceramic tiles and motifs.
The facade features a mixture of red and yellow brickwork accented by ceramic, geometric tile patterns, which contribute to the Moorish Revival style.
Architectural Style: Designed by Ludwig Förster, the building uses these tiles to evoke Moorish and North African Islamic models, which were thought to relate to the oriental origins of the Jewish people. (From Google AI)

The Parliament Buildings are the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, a famous landmark of Hungary and a well-known tourist destination of Budapest. It lies in Lajos Kossuth Square, on the bank of the Danube. It is the largest building in Hungary and also the tallest building in Budapest. The building was completed in 1904 nearly 20 years after work on the structure began.Nearly 100,000 people were involved in construction, during which 40 million bricks, half a million precious stones and 40 kilograms of gold were used.

The building is buil in Gothic Revival style, although the dome itself is Renaissance Revival architecture. Since 1990 the building has been open to the public, with only a few sections being actually used by the government, and those are thus inaccessible.
