<p>A small slice of history ... <br />

A rally addressed by Orban at the Hungarian Parliament on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Uprising.<br />
<br />
We wandered into this rally by accident, having walked around the Parliament building from the Danube. I have never in my whole life attended a rally addressed by a political leader. I guess this was one way of making up for that! Not for us to know at the time, but he wasn't going to make to 70th anniversary. <br />
<br />
There was a huge crowd, stretching out through the surrounding streets for a few city blocks. His lengthy speech was met with applause and cheers, the only sign of what might have been protest was the occasional banging of something that sounded like saucepans in a nearby building. There was a heavy security presence. <br />
<br />
When we left, we waited for some locals to go and walked with them. We didn't want to look like we were disrespecting anything here, and needed to be careful about carrying a DSLR. <br />
<br />
The phrase 'Legyen beke' is I think 'Let there be peace'. By way of portent of future events, indeed! Quite ironic to look back on this. <br />
