The castle was built in 1896, and is in fact a fantasy imitation showcasing the evolution of architectural styles in Hungary through centuries.

Eventually we came across the Great Market Hall and we keen to get inside, explore, find the loos and have some lunch! The ground floor was mostly food items, but upstairs we found loads of souvenir stalls - and the toilets! Luckily I had some Hungarian florints on me, as nothing comes for free here!!

Great Market Hall -
If you’re after a truly authentic Budapest experience, head straight to the Central Market Hall! The city’s largest indoor market is buzzing with fresh Hungarian products, traditional flavors, and a vibrant atmosphere.
It is described as one of the Most Beautiful Market Halls in the World.
The Central Market Hall—also known as the Great Market Hall or Fővám tér Market Hall—has stood proudly at the Pest side of Liberty Bridge since 1897. Designed by Samu Pecz, the grand, neo-Gothic building was inspired by the historic customs house that once stood here, where goods arriving on the Danube were taxed. Spanning 10,000 square meters, the hall is a feast for the eyes inside and out—with a Zsolnay tile roof and a spectacular steel roof structure that dominates the interior.
Step inside and you’ll find a massive market space where local farmers sell their fresh produce alongside traditional Hungarian foods and handcrafted goods. On the ground floor, look for true Hungarian classics: Pick salami, Kalocsa paprika, Tokaji wine, honey, cheeses, and many more regional delights. Looking for souvenirs? You’ll definitely find something unique and authentically Hungarian here! Upstairs, you'll discover handmade crafts and gift stalls, plus a food court where you can try goulash, pörkölt (stew), lángos, or even locals’ favorite dessert—strudel. (From budapestinfo.hu)

This beautiful church caught my eye as we made our way along the street towards the City Market, with its beautiful tower and soft yellow colouring.

Strolling along the cobblestone streets between Váci street and Egyetem square, you may well notice this lovely church.
Much as was the case with the Tabán area, this part of the city was chosen as a home by Serbs fleeing the Turks. They had a new church - officially, the Great Martyr Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church - designed by András Mayerhoffer from Salzburg. Completed in 1733, the building followed the traditional ground plan with wooden parapets and one step separating the pews into a men’s and a women’s section. Its iconostasis, completed in 1850, reflects the influence of the Italian Renaissance. Seen from Szerb utca, we can admire the Louis XVI effect of its main gate, and, peeking through the cast ironwork, we can catch a glimpse of the churchyard. The tombstones of Serbian believers buried in Pest were placed within the inner side of the stone wall, while a ceramic image of St George slaying the dragon can be seen in the alcove located on the street corner. The atmosphere of downtown Pest in former times can perhaps best be experienced in the neighbouring streets, and when we come up on the little Baroque church peeking out from the yellow wall, it really is like finding a hidden treasure. (From Budapestinfo.hu)
