This piece is part of the tranquil &quot;Garden of Philosophers&quot; (Filozófusok kertje) located on Gellért Hill, a sculptural ensemble designed to promote peace and mutual understanding among different faiths and cultures.<br /> <br /> --Sculptor--<br /> Nándor Wagner (1922–1997). A Hungarian-born artist who spent much of his life in Japan, Wagner created this group of statues as his life's crowning achievement. The collection was posthumously donated to the city of Budapest and officially unveiled in 2001.<br /> <br /> --Concept--<br /> The garden features a central circle of founders of major world religions (including Jesus, Buddha, Abraham, Laozi, and Akhenaten) gathered around a glowing orb. Bodhidharma, the legendary transmitter of Chán (Zen) Buddhism to China, is positioned slightly outside this main circle alongside Mahatma Gandhi and Saint Francis of Assisi.
