<p>A morning spent at Buttermere just before heading home, where there were moments of stillness and beautiful light. Although a familiar subject, it’s a location we return to in the hope of seeing these conditions come together, with areas of shadows and light working well.<br />
<br />
The placement of the small white building was critical, anchoring the scene within the landscape, while the horizontal layering of trees, shoreline and hillside provides a strong sense of structure. Trees and reflections when we get them work well together.<br />
<br />

<p>On the skyline from left to right, Nan Bield Pass, Mardale Ill Bell. a dip and the long swoop up to High Street now down the long ridge to the tree covered Rigg sticking out into the lake. From the top it's Long Stile, Riggindale Crags, Rough Crag and finally Eagle, Heron and Swine Crags.<br />
I have heard it said by those who know about these things that this ridge is by far the best route to the top of a hill in this section of the galaxy.<br />
I remember sitting about three quarters of the way up the ridge on a sunny afternoon with Beaconside's Outdoor Pursuits group watching a pair of Golden Eagles dance in the space over Riggindale. Unforgettable and unfortunately a long time ago.</p>

Opened in 1904 as a sanatorium for the treatment of TB now an Outdoor Centre running courses based on the local environment.</p>
