These are on the north side, hard to photograph, but easier than the south which usually catches the sun and has too much glare to make anything out.</p>

<p>A rather gloomy photograph of the upper part of the east window of the Beauchamp Chapel, made up of fragments of glass after it was destroyed by the Puritans. Unlike today, when there would be photographs of the window that restorers could match, those in the 16th century must have faced the most enormous challenge. They made a surprisingly good job of it, and it's only when you look closely that you realise that most of the bodies of figures are composites that are missing limbs or wearing curious outfits.</p>

<p>This is the extraordinary ceiling of the small chapel between the Beauchamp Chapel and the chancel.</p>

<p>Another of the wonderfully carved statues in the tracery of the east window. (They also extend round the arch, but much was in shadow when we visited.) With the ravages of the Puritans and then the Civil War and time itself, the statues are remarkable survivors. I came across this shocking calculation somewhere: 'Some ninety-five per cent of English art was destroyed in the Reformation, with more lost during the Civil War.' I don't know whether the robed female on the right is the Virgin or another saint, but she appears to be standing on a dragon.</p>

<p>This is a section of the frieze at the west end of the Beachamp Chapel, which features a gryphon and a lion attacking some poor creature.</p>

<p>Although the stained glass in the east window was destroyed by the Puritans, miraculously the carved sngels that surround them survived. They are almost entirely unscathed and make up one of the finest collections of late medieval statuary in the whole of the UK. Each is individual, not just with wings as befits angels, but also with feathered robes, and with delicately painted faces and carved hands. The only difficulty is photographing them. A recurring theme, as in the one on the bottom left here, is an angel (or St Michael perhaps), fighting a devilish character.</p>

<p>This is Warwick Castle, a historic medieval castle located in Warwick, (would you believe) the county town of Warwickshire, England. The prominent stone structure here is one of its famous towers, such as Caesar's Tower, which was part of the castle's refortification during the 14th century. <br />

Developed from a wooden fort originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068, the castle was later rebuilt in stone during the 12th century. Today, it is a major tourist attraction known for its dramatic fortifications and night-time events, including the "Weird Walk of Warwick," an evening walking tour that features ghostly tales and lit-up views of the castle. It is often cited as one of England's "scariest" or most haunted attractions due to its long history and dungeon experiences.<br />
<br />
Caesar's Tower, is the tallest and most formidable tower at Warwick Castle. Built between 1330 and 1360 during the Hundred Years' War, it is a masterwork of 14th-century military architecture. It stands approximately 44.8 meters high. While Guy's Tower appears taller from the courtyard, Caesar's Tower starts from a much lower level on the sandstone cliff near the River Avon. It is one of only two quatrefoil (cloverleaf-shaped) towers in England. It features a rare double parapet and a sloping base (glacis) designed to deflect missiles dropped from above toward attackers. Originally built for residential use, its upper storeys housed noble prisoners waiting for ransom. Its most famous "guest" was King Edward IV, who was briefly imprisoned here in 1469 during the Wars of the Roses. The tower's basement contains a grim, stone-vaulted dungeon, sometimes known as the Poitiers Tower. <br />

<p>Beside the tomb of Richard Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick is this one, which commemorates Ambrose Dudley (1528-1590), 3rd Earl of Warwick and brother of Robert Dudley. He was created Baron de L'Isle and Earl of Warwick by Queen Elizabeth, and amongst his other titles was 'Chief Butler of England'. His alabaster tomb is gloriously decorated, but apparently his gilded coronet was not added until the 18th century. Although he married three times, he remained childless after the death of his infant daughter in 1552. He and his brother Robert were very close, but Ambrose’s life much less flamboyant, so he was known as ‘the Good Earl of Warwick’.<br />
If you’re wondering why Ambrose Dudley (who died in 1590) was only the 3rd of Warwick, while Richard Beauchamp (who died in 1439) was the 13th, the earldom of Warwick has been created four times. The first was in 1088, the second in 1547, the third in 1618, and the fourth (still extant) in 1759.</p>

<p>The Doom painting inside the Beauchamp Chapel, painted by Richard Bird in 1678 as a depiction of the Last Judgment. Apparently it was originally painted by John Brentwood in 1449 and restored by Richard Bird in the style of Michelangelo.</p>
