<p>Mainz, von den Juden Magenza genannt, war über viele Jahrhunderte ein bedeutendes jüdisches Zentrum am Rhein und besaß mehrere Synagogen. Durch die Novemberpogrome 1938 fand die jüdische Tradition in Mainz jedoch ein plötzliches Ende. <br />
<br />
Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg war die jüdische Gemeinde in Mainz zunächst recht klein, wuchs jedoch nach dem Fall der Mauer ganz beachtlich vor allem durch Zuwanderungen aus Osteuropa. Am Standort der am 9. November 1938 von der Nazis zerstörten Synagoge in der Hindenburgstraße, an die noch einige Säulen und ein Architrav erinnern, wurde am 3. September 2010 die neue Synagoge eingeweiht.</p>

De prachtige, historische mozaïeken van de Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in Berlijn bevinden zich in de overgebleven Gedenkhalle van de oude, in de Tweede Wereldoorlog deels verwoeste toren. De mozaïeken werden eind 19e eeuw ontworpen door kunstenaar Hermann Schaper. Ze bedekken de muren en het gewelfde plafond met miljoenen kleurrijke glazen steentjes op een achtergrond van bladgoud. De mozaïeken raakten tijdens het bombardement in 1943 zwaar beschadigd, maar zijn tussen 2009 und 2014 grondig gerestaureerd en geconsolideerd. <br />

The beautiful, historic mosaics of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin are located in the remaining Memorial Hall of the old tower, which was partially destroyed during the Second World War. The mosaics were designed in the late 19th century by artist Hermann Schaper. They cover the walls and the vaulted ceiling with millions of colorful glass stones on a background of gold leaf. The mosaics were severely damaged during the bombing in 1943 but were thoroughly restored and consolidated between 2009 and 2014.</p>
