A fascinating English language publicity folder giving details of passenger journeys on airships/Zeppelins of the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin G.m.b.H. and operated by HAPAG - the Hamburg-Amerika Linie G.m.b.H. with specific reference to L.Z.127, the Graf Zeppelin. The brochure is not dated but makes occasional mention of North American/Atlantic services and the airship Graf Zeppelin was employed on the route from launch in 1928 until 1931 when the vessel was switched to South American routes.

The brochure goes into great detail as to fares, rules and regulations as well as giving some details as to life 'on-board'; there are images of cabins, bedrooms and specimen menus or the "bill of fare" on board. The Luftschiffbau Zeppelin G.m.b.H. was formed in 1908 by Ferdinand von Zeppelin to manufacture the rigid airships developed by the founder; the following year an effective offshoot, the Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft, was formed to operate services and this company had backing from the Hamburg-Amerika Linie. It ran its first commercial passenger service in 1910. The Graf Zeppelin, LZ 127, named after the inventor who had died in 1917, was constructed and came into service in 1928. Zeppelin's photograph is seen in the brochure along with that of Dr. H. Eckener who was at the time chairman of the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin and who commanded the airship on its first trans-Atlantic crossing.

In the 1930s the history of the operating and construction companies became inevitably enmeshed with the rise of the National Socialist dictatorship. Zeppelin operations, and rigid airships generally, fell from favour following the L.Z. 129 Hindenburg disaster in 1937 and the rise of 'convential' aviation. The brochure has a fine cover by "Lohmann" and was printed in Hamburg by Gustav Petermann. The layout is slightly spoilt by the insertion of the smaller images at the lower edge of several of the pages that splits the text rather awkwardly. Otherwise it has the feel of a 'premium' job for a premium service.
