<p> Soest was one of the major cities in Westphalia during the 11th./12th century, having a population of around 10.000. Founded on the ancient "Hellweg" (=Saltway), Soest played a major role within the Hanseatic League. Once it was even the capital of Westphalia - and (1531) a centre of Protestant Reformation in the area.<br />
<br />
In the early decades of the 20th century, Soest was an important centre of Westphalian Expressionism. Wilhelm Morgner who was born in Soest, is regarded as the town’s most outstanding artistic talent.<br />

The "Museum Wilhelm Morgner" is dedicated to him.<br />

<p>The Frauenkirche, officially the Cathedral of Our Lady, also known as Munich Cathedral for short,[2] is a late-Gothic church in Munich’s Old Town and is one of the landmarks of the Bavarian capital, Munich. Since 1821, the building has served as the cathedral of the Archbishop of Munich and Freising.<br />
The three-aisled brick building is 109 metres long and 40 metres wide, with the masonry of the nave standing approximately 37 metres high. Contrary to a widespread legend which claims that the two towers, with their characteristic domes, differ in height by exactly one metre, they are almost the same height: the north tower measures 98.57 metres, whilst the south tower measures 98.45 metres. The belfry of the south tower can be accessed by lift, although visitors must first climb 86 steps up a spiral staircase. The north tower is not open to the public.<br />
The picture was taken from Sporerstrasse / Thiereckstrasse from the rear part of the Cathedral and shows the south tower. The lower part of the picture shows parasols at the Augustiner Beer Garden - always worth to take place and enjoy a beer.</p>

<p>On the morning of 10 October 2026, I hiked along the Westweg near Forbach in the Black Forest towards Hohlohmoor in persistent rain. On my way back downhill in the afternoon, the weather finally began to clear and a little sunlight appeared through the clouds. Almost back at the car, I encountered this curious squirrel. Rather than immediately disappearing into the forest, it calmly watched me from several different positions, giving me enough time to take out my camera and photograph our unexpected meeting. A small and memorable encounter at the end of a wet autumn hike.</p>
