Opened in the 1940's the Anchor serves tasty traditional food such as hamburgers, giant sandwiches and French fries. The interior looks like you have stepped back in time. There are modern items, but not a great deal has changed since I first set foot in there 40+ years ago.<br /> <br /> I really like to tell this story. In the late 1990's I stopped to have a lunch/dinner with four friends. We ordered, the food was great and we left and went to a convention event. Roughly 5 hours later we were headed out from Convention Center. Someone said &quot;I'M hungry&quot; and then someone said &quot;Let's go back to the Anchor&quot;. We sat at the same table as earlier. Our server (same one as before) asked what we were having and I said we'll have what we had earlier. One person changed a single item on their order. The server wrote nothing down and walked away. She came back with the food and the order was perfect. Century.<br /> The road across it passed through one of several “gates” into the fortified town.<br /> Alas, Dinham Gate was demolished in 1786 and all the others<br /> met the same fate at various times, bar one, Broad Gate, which still stands, a little to the east.<br /> The tree-sheltered and grassy banks of the river now provide a superb environment for river-side-walks, restaurants, Public Houses and picnic sites.<br /> Children toe-dip and skim stones in the shallow pools nearby. <br /> An historic, secluded, beautiful environment on the fringe of, probably, “the loveliest town in England.”</p> <p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/people/21946699@N02/">kyfireenginephoto</a> posted a photo:</p> <p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/21946699@N02/55528126742/" title="Philadelphia Fire Insurance Patrol PA -
