Some time ago, I read somewhere that you could see the Magic Kingdom fireworks show from the Transportation and Ticket Center, across the Seven Seas Lagoon. At the time, that didn’t really resonate with me; it was over a mile away, and an island was surely in the way.
Then, about a year ago, I saw Tim Miranda Photos’s photo of the scene, and I’ve wanted to try it ever since. Last night, Lauren and I set out to try. (With the slowdown in the rocket launch cadence, I’ve been jonesing for content…)
The weather was great. It was damp and hot, but it’s Florida. Mickey’s No-So-Scary Halloween Party was being held, so there was really no crowd to deal with. Close parking was readily available, and bonus: it was free. After a 5-minute walk and a quick stop at the security line (we had it to ourselves), we were at the ramp to the Ferry dock, in position.
Apparently, Disney spends ~$50,000 every night on pyrotechnics for the Magic Kingdom display. In the park, it’s almost overwhelming. From a mile away, it’s still impressive and tall — totally impressive to the naked eye, even more so through a telephoto lens. I leaned toward favoring the scale of Cinderella Castle and Main Street Train Station, which cuts out a bunch of the display in the sky above.
FWIW, Lauren rated the fireworks 9.5/10. And she wants you to know that frame 5 is her favorite because green is her favorite color. In that frame, you can see the projections on the castle well, a whole not-so-spooky vibe.
It was a fun night.
Details: ISO320, f/13, and 4-sec exposures with a Canon USA R5mii and RF100-500mm L at 270mm. Photos 1, 2, and 6 are 2 frame composites; photos 3, 4, and 5 are single frames.

The wallpaper in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is cool. Although a bit noisy for a background in a photo album.
