The audience watching the reveal of the 2024 programme for the Edinburgh International Book Festival , in the brand-new home for the festival, in the Edinburgh Futures Institute.

A part of Edinburgh University, it is in a hugely remodelled and refurbished Victorian part of the former Royal Infirmary (the hospital has long since relocated to a larger, modern campus on the edge of the city at Little France).

For decades the book festival was in Charlotte Square in the New Town, but left a few years ago, partly it had outgrown the space, partly the people who have control over that square were no longer as welcoming, so it had an interim home in the Edinburgh College of Art while awaiting the completion of their new home in the Futures Institute.

This was our first chance to get a peek around the new space, and it is terrific - looking forward to exploring it more come festival time in August (we're told the Spiegeltent is returning too, and will be set up on the grassy area outside)

Flixbus 090 from Edinburgh to Glasgow and vv only started at the end of April 2024 but already is now operating every half hour from its Edinburgh Regent Road terminus via Deer Park and Harthill Services. McGill’s 0615 is seen on a westbound journey on Princes Street at the junction with Waverley Bridge.

Tram 275 was captured departing Edinburgh Gateway tram/rail interchange en route from Newhaven to Edinburgh Airport. The railway platforms are at the higher level behind the line of trees on the left. The tram tracks on the left are used by trams entering or leaving Gogar Depot from/to the city direction. The depot - home to the tramway’s fleet of 27 trams - is behind the photographer on the other side of the Myreton Drive bridge. Staff joining trams in service do so at Edinburgh Gateway rather than at the Depot Staff Halt used before the Gateway tramstop opened and the path on the left is the access into the secure area. 275 currently wears a wrap for the Edinburgh Solicitors’ Property Centre.

The bus operator provides frequent departures on this route from George Street (Assembly Rooms) over each of the four days of this annual event at Ingliston on the west side of the city next to the airport.

Author Peter Parker (no, not *that* Peter Parker!) in conversation with Marie Moser of the Edinburgh Bookshop, discussing volume 1 of Some Men in London.

The book explores the often hidden history of homosexuality in the mid 20th century (when it was not just socially unnaceptable but also legally a criminal act), using the voices and records of many men from actors and politicians to members of the guards regiments. It was a fascinating discussion, and a glimpse into a hidden, demi-monde.
