<p>Das Rittergut des zwischen Döbeln und Waldheim in Mittelsachsen gelegenen Dorfes Ziegra geht vermutlich auf einen bereits im 11. Jahrhundert bestehenden Herrensitz zurück. Dieser befand sich vermutlich auf einem Geländesporn über der Zschopau, was sich heute noch durch erhaltene Wälle unweit des Limmritzer Bahnviaduktes abzeichnet. Die Nennung eines gewissen Hermannus de Cigerowe im Jahr 1231 ist der älteste bekannte Beleg für die Existenz des Dorfes, an dessen westlichen Rand ein neuer Herrensitz entstand. Die heute hier vorzufindende Bausubstanz geht vermutlich auf die Zeit um das Jahr 1500 zurück, wobei das derzeit ungenutzte Herrenhaus unter Verwendung älterer Bauteile um das Jahr 1820 erbaut wurde.<br />
<br />
Das mindestens 1696 als Rittergut bezeichnete Anwesen erlebte im Laufe seines Bestehens zahlreiche Besitzwechsel, wobei die Nutzung von jeher landwirtschaftlich geprägt war. Trotz zahlreicher entstellender Umbauten während der sozialistischen Zeit, blieb die Gesamtanlage eines großen Gutshofes weitgehend erhalten. Leider mussten bereits länger leerstehende Scheunen in den letzten Jahren abgerissen werden. Ob dem Herrenhaus in Verbindung mit dem angrenzenden Gutspark neues Leben eingehaucht werden kann bleibt fraglich.<br />
<br />
Sehenswert ist die östlich an das ehemalige Rittergut angrenzende <b>Dorfkirche</b>. Die eher an eine Kapelle erinnernde Kirche wurde 1770 als Ersatz für einen Vorgängerbau errichtet. Mit nur 150 Sitzplätzen gilt das frühklassizistische Bauwerk als eine der kleinsten Dorfkirchen Sachsens.</p>

<p>Welcome back all to another woodland image and let me introduce you to a wonderful character (tree) I stumbled upon by chance on my last trip. The light rays as I mentioned on my last image were providing the theme for the morning and were just there not to be ignored. Coming upon the small beech tree patch which I had scouted before I knew of this magnificent Red Beech. The strong protruding branch reaching out to the sky in an almost defensive style reminded me of the short stubby sword used by Maximus in the wonderful film Gladiator. The beech was kind of standing there on its own surrounded by smaller beech trees, almost forming a small amphitheater of their own trying to hide in the shade.<br />
The contrasting light was again the challenge, but it was there for the taking as the colors of the leaves were glowing in full glory. I would have preferred a softer light, but I am sure Autumn and Maximus will produce that hopefully in the next few weeks.</p>
