As the piper plays, something more than a musical sound is created. It reverberates through the countryside as It carries history, courage, discipline, and a tradition that has endured through time.

Thank you Kenny for giving us an incredible opportunity to reflect on our own special memories in one of the most ancient and dramatic places.

Long before the years settled into memory, Mark came north to Scotland, following the steady work of a lumberjack and the pull of a different landscape. In the Borders, where the hills stretch wide and the old stones keep their watch, he met Kenny.

Kenny knew the land in a way that cannot be taught. He welcomed Mark not as a stranger passing through, but as someone meant to stay awhile. What began as a simple meeting grew, over time, into a lasting friendship, further cemented by a newfound direction.

A few years later, I met Mark and the circle widened. Kenny was best man on our wedding day, so he arranged for another piper to play for our wedding. The following year, Kenny too married, and the four of us found our lives gently and unbreakably woven together. Distance has since carried us to different places, and our opportunities to spend time together are limited. However, the bond remains solid as the old stones of Hermitage Castle, so full of its own memories, unchanged by time.

St Mary's Abbey, Melrose was founded in 1136 by Cistercian monks, who had come from Clairvaux Abbey (France),
at the request of King David I of Scotland.
The Commendator's House was build en 1500,
Commendators were lay administrators who, during the 1500s, increasingly supplanted abbots as the men in charge of abbeys.
Their arrival was one of many indicators of the moral decline of abbeys across Scotland, itself a symptom of the wider malaise in the church that helped prompt the Scottish Reformation of 1560

Taken a couple of years ago, at Traquair House, in the Scottish Borders. I was captivated by this lady, who kindly posed for a few snaps. She was part of a musical trio, playing medieval music on trad instruments.

ZM719, Boeing AH-64E Apache (CN UD020) 'Nemesis 1' of 662 Squadron, Army Air Corps passes Cardrona village en route from Otterburn Camp to Balado Airfield for a fuel stop (and if they're smart; a couple of the cafe's excelled sausage rolls for lunch). One of four Apaches that made the trip both Saturday and Sunday. Sadly this pass was the highest (probably due to the wind), the others being at ultra low level. One day I'll get enough notice to bag a look down shot, but ADSB is very patchy in the valleys.
