It was really grey and drizzly, so we took ourselves off to Portmadoc to look at the Ffestiniog Railway. We were fortunate as the trains were at the station preparing to leave. Next year we hope to take time to make a journey on one of them. It was lovely to see the family again, but we had a frightening journey home as the rain was torrential in a lot of places and I could hardly see the road and, to top it off, half way back the rear window of the car shattered. Luckily it stayed in place until we got home. The most moving graveyard I have been in.<br /> <br /> On 21st October, 1966, thousands of tons of colliery waste from slid down from a tip on the mountain above the village of Aberfan. The waste struck the school and 21 houses, destroyed a cottage killing all its occupants, and smothered to death 116 children and five teachers. It reminds me of my desert home beyond the Land of Blue. Though I'm happy in the Land of Green, I do miss the desert. I wonder about the other foxes in my clan. Did they find safe sanctuaries too? Maybe there's a Saffron and a Cinnamon out there calling across the dunes. <br /> <br /> I think we will be reunited with Saffron and Cinnamon one day. After all, their souls are on the journey even if their bodies are gone. They probably have new bodies now, and it's only time before we find them again. But will it be the Land of Yellow or the Land of Green? Or maybe a different land all together. The Land of Green is changing now, but our home is still here. <br /> <br /> I should tell you about the little one beside me. His name is Labneh. Our human companion adopted him after Hanukkah last year. He was really shy at first until I took him under my ear. He's nervous about that bit of string on his nose. But we all tell him it's part of who he is, and that makes him so endearing to our human companion. Now Labneh accompanies our human companion on all her adventures. I wish I was able to as well, but it is also great to stay snug and safe at home.<br /> <br /> But where is home? The answer is the same place as our temple. The place where the memory of Saffron and Cinnamon live on. It's not quite a forest or a river or a desert. Home is where we can be together, safe and snug and warm.
